Humberto graduating from college

To all the people who help Esperanza Juvenil, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to achieve my university studies. I hope you continue to support us. There are many more young people coming behind us, and I am sure they will also be grateful. They will graduate and what they bring to Guatemala will be worth it.

Humberto Aguiral was born in Zone 6 of Guatemala City. Before coming to Esperanza Juvenil, he studied in a public school. Unfortunately, his father died when Humberto was 3 years old, leaving his widowed mother with 3 sisters: two older than him and one younger. He is the third. His mother contacted Esperanza Juvenil, where he was given the opportunity to study. He entered the program as a resident student when he was 5 years old, and has since been able to continue his studies.

Before entering Esperanza Juvenil, the area where he grew up was not safe at all. His mother, looking for his safety and an opportunity for her children, saw Esperanza Juvenil as a great opportunity to stay out of danger. However, it was a little difficult for her because at the time of enrollment, Humberto had to live inside the residences and she was not used to being away from her children. Letting him go so young was complicated for both her and Humberto, but they did it in order to get the education they needed.

Young Humberto

In Esperanza Juvenil, he studied elementary school, and then high school in a private school that Esperanza Juvenil paid for. Thanks to Esperanza Juvenil, he met AICSA Corporation, who gave him the opportunity to study at the university, giving him a scholarship for a degree in Construction Engineering, from which he graduated in 2019. From there, he began to practice his profession within the company. Currently, he works as a project manager in construction.

He has been assigned the supervision and execution of 6 new high school classrooms for Esperanza Juvenil. It is a great joy for him to be in charge of this project. Humberto says that it is a thrill to see how Esperanza Juvenil has grown so much, and having more classrooms means having more children who have the opportunity to continue studying and who will be the professionals of the future in Guatemala.

Humberto tells us that if he were to meet the Humberto of 3 or 4 years ago, he would tell him to keep working hard, to keep studying, that it is hard to be away from his mother, but that everything will be fine and everything he will achieve will be worth every decision he made at the time.

Humberto’s words: “To all the people who help Esperanza Juvenil, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to achieve my university studies. I hope you continue to support us. There are many more young people coming behind us, and I am sure they will also be grateful. They will graduate and what they bring to Guatemala will be worth it. Thank you very much.”
